Coiled fibre & clay

A tall coiled vessel in natural fibre over a burnished clay base — the fibre worked upward from the clay until the two stop being separate things.

Making notes

The base is thrown and burnished, then the coiling is stitched straight onto it, row over row, until the fibre has taken over the form entirely.

It is slow work and it shows: the stitch tension shifts as the piece climbs, so the surface tightens and loosens the way bark does.

Care

Dust with a soft brush. Keep out of prolonged direct sun, and away from damp — the fibre will take up moisture.

These notes are draft wording retained for Meg’s review. Meg will confirm the materials, dimensions and care for each piece.
